📝 Installation Overview

1. Preparation

  • Park the van on a flat, level surface.
  • Engage the parking brake and chock front wheels.
  • Raise the rear of the van and support securely with jack stands under the frame.

2. Factory Leaf Spring Check

  • Ensure that factory leaf springs are in good condition.
  • The Hellwig EZ-990 installs above or below the factory leaf, depending on load preference and clearance.

3. Mounting the Helper Spring

  • Place the Hellwig spring parallel to the factory leaf.
  • Use included U-bolts and brackets to clamp the helper spring to the factory pack.
  • Start with the recommended neutral preload setting (springs just making contact, not engaged).

4. Fine-Tuning

  • Adjust bolt tension based on your load (camper build, gear, etc.).
  • For heavier builds, preload the spring slightly for better support.
  • Always torque U-bolts to spec (typically 50–70 ft-lbs—check Hellwig instructions).

5. Final Steps

  • Double-check all hardware for proper torque.
  • Lower vehicle and test ride for clearance and handling.
  • Re-torque hardware after 100 miles.

⚠️ Tips & Safety Notes

  • Do not exceed vehicle GVWR. These springs assist but do not increase your weight rating.
  • Periodically inspect hardware, especially on rough terrain.
  • Use anti-seize on U-bolts if installing in high-salt or coastal regions.
